CNN —The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is always entertaining, but few games in the history of the competition can stand up to Cameroon’s 3-2 win against Gambia on Tuesday. “The match, like all of AFCON, is insane,” he added in a separate post. The first goal didn’t come until the 56th minute though, when Cameroon striker Karl Toko Ekambi headed his country in front. Gambia looked to have stunned the five-time AFCON champion but couldn't hold on in the frantic affair. The 2019 champion, which boasts an array of top-class talent, finished bottom of Group D after failing to win a single game in the group stages.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) —Drug task force officers suspected a Minnesota couple of selling methamphetamine when they raided their house in an operation that left five officers and one resident wounded last week, according to a search warrant released Wednesday. Gunfire broke out last Thursday when Sherburne County Drug Task Force officers attempted to execute the search warrant at the home of Karl Thomas Holmberg, 64. A second warrant released showed that police also looked for flammable and electrical materials and fire damage after the raid after seeing black smoke inside the residence as Holmberg exited, look back, then went back inside. He wrote that he got an informant or informants to buy meth from the couple twice earlier this year. Interviewed by police at the hospital, he said he didn’t think the officers serving the search warrant “had a right to be there and told them to leave,” according to the complaint.

GAROUA, Cameroon, Sept 12 (Reuters) - A nervy Cameroon scored twice in the second half to beat Burundi 3-0 in Garoua on Tuesday and qualify for January’s Africa Cup of Nations finals, overcoming their plucky opponents as Andre Onana marked his return to the team with a series of key saves. Cameroon had needed to win the game to ensure a place in the finals. Victory saw them finish top of three-team Group C and also ensured that Namibia would qualify with them while Burundi missed out. With Group C settled, the field for the 24-team Cup of Nations finals in the Ivory Coast from Jan. 13-Feb. 11 next year is complete. U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist Acquire Licensing Rights Read moreMANILA, Aug 27 (Reuters) - China's "aggressive behaviour" in the South China Sea, including the use of water canon by its coast guard against a Philippine vessel, must be challenged and checked, the commander of the U.S. Navy's Seventh Fleet said on Sunday. It operates over an area of 124 million square km (48 million square miles) from bases in Japan, South Korea and Singapore. On Saturday, Thomas said he joined a flight from Manila "to go out and check out the South China Sea". The Philippines won an international arbitration award against China in 2016, after a tribunal said Beijing's sweeping claim to sovereignty over most of the South China Sea had no legal basis. China has built militarised, manmade islands in the South China Sea and its claim of historic sovereignty overlaps with the exclusive economic zones of the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei and Indonesia.

Karl frequently surprised the world as a designer (he loved to turn heads), but it was as a friend that he surprised me most. Many years ago, when I was facing my first summer vacation with my children after my divorce, I was frozen. It was Karl, of all people, who sensed this and swooped in to lend a hand. Karl was perhaps even less a kid person than he was a porcelain person, but he went all out when I most needed it. A real relationship with Karl was an association and connection built incrementally, over years.
Following Trump's indictment, Mike Pence is still defending his former boss. Pence is still displaying loyalty to Trump — even after Capitol rioters threatened to hang him. Pence narrowly escaped the Capitol rioters, and has since rebuked Trump for endangering him and his family during the riot with "reckless" statements. "They were saying 'hang Mike Pence,'" Karl told Trump. "Mike Pence is an innocent man," Trump wrote in a Truth Social post in January.
Chris Sununu gave a thumbs down to Trump's chances against Biden in a potential 2024 matchup. "The country is going to push back against it," Sununu said of a Trump general election candidacy. Chris Sununu on Sunday said that former President Donald Trump won't be able defeat President Joe Biden in a potential 2024 matchup, arguing that the former commander-in-chief would be seen as an "extreme candidate." Trump is going to be seen as a very extreme candidate. The results showed Trump with a 50%-41% lead among Independents, which helped give him a slight edge in the survey.
On Wednesday, about 300,000 teachers will take action, along with 100,000 civil servants from more than 120 government departments, and tens of thousands of university lecturers and rail workers. 'MOST DAYS LOST FOR 30 YEARS'Between June and November, more days were lost to industrial action than in any six months for over 30 years, according to official data. An Ipsos poll released on Wednesday suggested the public was divided on the multiple strike action, with 40% supporting the action and 38% opposed. It put the estimated impact of the teachers' strikes at about 20 million pounds a day. The Lighting Carrier conceptAn F-35B launches from USS Tripoli in April 2022. A light aircraft carrier embarks with fewer jets than a fleet aircraft carrier — as many as 20, compared to more than 50 on a fleet carrier — but it costs much less and is more versatile. US Marine Corps F-35Bs approach and land on USS Tripoli during an exercise in June. "There is no comparison between a J-15 and an F-35B," Thomas said, referring to China's main carrier aircraft. Paul Ryan said there was no one "better suited" to lead House Republicans than Kevin McCarthy. McCarthy is trying to lock up votes to lead the House, which will have a slim GOP majority in 2023. Ryan also told Karl that he believed McCarthy would get at least 218 votes on the floor, and expressed confidence in the lawmaker's abilities to lead Republicans. "There isn't anybody better suited to running this conference than Kevin McCarthy. He's been good for conservatives, frankly, but he's also a person who really understands how to manage a conference."

Laurene Powell Jobs doesn’t tend to court the limelight. Over the past decade, she’s given only 10 interviews for publication. So why speak now, when there’s hardly a pressing reason for her to take the public stage? “My main reason is to cut through the misunderstanding and misconceptions,” says Powell Jobs—the ones about her 11-year-old organization, Emerson Collective, which is part philanthropy, part Sand Hill Road venture-capital powerhouse, part artistic patronage and part immigration-education-environmental advocacy group. It doesn’t help that most of Emerson’s giving has been anonymous, she says.
Vice Adm. Karl Thomas, commander of the U.S. Seventh Fleet, said he sees China’s recent actions around Taiwan as an extension of the ‘might makes right’ mentality. China’s armed forces are capable of blockading Taiwan, a senior U.S. Navy official said, pointing to the size of the country’s navy, which is the world’s largest and growing at a rapid pace. “They have a very large navy, and if they want to bully and put ships around Taiwan, they very much can do that,” Vice Adm. Karl Thomas , commander of the U.S. Seventh Fleet, said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal.
